Why all the IAQ concern now?
The fact is that more people are spending more time indoors now than ever before. The national institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) states that radical advances in technology, along with governmental energy conservation measures in the 1970’s contributed to a dramatic increase in the number of workers in confined indoor environments. Greater awareness and increased public knowledge of the potential for IAQ problems has also contributed to the rise in reporting of suspected problems in homes and businesses.

Do I Have a Serious IAQ Problem?
The majority of indoor air quality concerns in the event of a disaster such as flooding or fire, are usually addressed prior to any exposure that may pose health risks to occupants. In these cases, true professionals will not overlook the possibility of exposing individuals to unnecessary health risks. But, some businesses may attempt to circumvent any environmental concern to avoid delaying their portion of the work.

Professionals in the insurance, construction, and property management industries who practice their business with integrity, and continually add to their knowledge base, will recommend an environmental consultant like EVISTA to assess whether there is a legitimate environmental problem to be addressed. If you have any concerns at all, the best way to get fast answers is to call EVISTA for a free consultation. We will be happy to address your concerns and provide further direction. However, if you have any health concerns a physician should be consulted immediately.

IAQ History dates back thousands of years…
Ancient Egyptians observed that stone carvers working indoors had a higher incidence of respiratory distress than those working outdoors.

In Leviticus Chapter 14 of the Holy Bible, the inspection of homes for mold and the procedures for remediating the problem are detailed.

Experts suggest that the “witch” episodes witnessed by the residents of Salem resulted from mycotoxin (mold) exposure. The damp and rainy spring and summer in 1691 were the perfect conditions for mold growth in grains. Bewitchments consequently ended in the following summer when the weather was extremely dry

King Charles I, of England, in 1600 decreed that no building should be built with a ceiling height of less than 10 feet, and that windows had to be higher than they were wide. The objective was to improve smoke removal from indoors.
